Calcium and Magnesium are critical throughout all stages of growth. Plants are under large amounts of stress trying to uptake nutrients to conduct photosynthesis to build those cell walls for a strong and vibrant life cycle. Calcium deficiency will (really) cause a visibly unhealthy-looking plant and slow down the overall growing process. Magnesium deficiency will show up on the bottom of the plant. The leaves will start to lighten up and go from dark green to a washed out looking yellow and some of the tips will turn brown.  Both minerals really tie into each other. If you have a calcium problem, then you will develop a Magnesium deficiency also. Iron also plays an important role in the list of minerals that help the plant in the uptake of nutrients for optimum lush growth.
